Divine Child - Child Jesus Devotions
Divine Child Jesus
The devotion to the Divino Niño in Bogota, Colombia, started with Father John Rizzo, a Salesian priest from Italy. Father John came from the region near Arenzano, Italy, a region which already had a great devotion to the Infant Jesus.
In 1914, the Salesians were building a great church in Barranquilla, Colombia, in a very impoverished area. The Superior asked Father John Rizzo to beg for donations from the local people for the construction of the new church. Father John was very embarrassed to ask for monetary donations because of the immense poverty of these people. He was so embarrassed, he returned to the rectory without having collected even one cent. The next day, the Superior asked him to go out again and collect the necessary donations. This time, Father John knelt in front of the Blessed Mother to ask her help in this difficult assignment. In seeing the Child Jesus in the arms of His Mother, Father John thought to himself that up to now, he had asked for favors through Mary’s intercessions, but he had not brought his prayer requests directly to the Child Jesus. Father John decided that he would entrust all his efforts to the Child Jesus. He felt at that moment a great calm and went out to fulfill the work entrusted to him by his Superior. Father John came home that day with the donations he had collected and he felt his trust and confidence in the Child Jesus growing stronger. From that moment on, he trusted in the Child Jesus and prayed to Him before going out to ask for any donations.
On the 25th of December 1937, the cornerstone was blessed for the new church in Bogota. Father John had desired this new church to be very large, but, the Superiors did not want anything too extravagant. Father John would often lament that the plans for the new structure were too small. Due to his vow of obedience, Father John had to resign himself to the plans for the new church. As he had predicted, the large number of people that attended the Sunday services proved all too quickly that the new church was too small. More than on hundred thousand people visit the church every Sunday. By 1989, plans were undertaken to construct a new church, much larger than the one built before. The new structure was inaugurated in 1992, thanks to the generosity of the many faithful that frequently visit the church. This new church is called a Sanctuary, a place where many, many miracles have taken place. In these Sanctuaries miracles take place due to the faith of the people, and, that causes even more miracles to take place.
Father John Rizzo died in 1957 but it was his devotion to the Child Jesus that sparked the miracles that take place there everyday. His entire life was dedicated to propagating devotion to the Child Jesus. Every morning, Father John donated chocolate and bread to the poor people in the region. Due to the generosity of the people, hundreds of poor children continue to visit the Sanctuary every morning to receive chocolate and bread. In all this time, even to his day, there has not been any necessity to purchase the chocolate or the bread that is distributed, all of it is obtained through the generosity of the faithful. The statue that we see today in Bogota, was one which Father John himself purchased in Bogota from a local artisan. This beautiful statue of Jesus as a Child, dressed in a pink tunic, with His arms wide open to receive us, and His innocent and loving smile is probably one of the most dear representations of Our Lord’s Infancy; it invokes in us a desire to embrace Him and entrust all our cares into His loving arms.

"BUILD ME A TEMPLE AND I WILL HELP THOSE WHO HELP YOU." - DIVINO NINO TO MOTHER ANGELICA"
Divino Nino's Call to Mother Angelica
When pilgrims visit the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, many ask: "How did it all begin?" The answer to this question comes as a surprise to many ... the Lord used a business trip to bring about this marvel of His Divine Providence.
In 1995, Mother M. Angelica was traveling in South America on business for EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network). A Spanish television network was in the works for Latin America, where so many Catholics were losing their faith. So Mother traveled with two of the nuns to ask for the support of the Bishops and Nuncios.
Colombia was among the countries that Mother visited on this trip. In Bogotá, a Salesian priest - Father Juan Pablo Rodriguez - brought Mother and the nuns to the Sanctuary of the Divine Infant Jesus to attend Mass. After Mass, Father Juan Pablo took them into a small Shrine which housed the miraculous statue of the Child Jesus.
Mother Angelica stood praying at the side of the statue when suddenly the miraculous image came alive and turned towards her. Then the Child Jesus spoke with the voice of a young boy: "Build Me a Temple and I will help those who help you." Thus began a great adventure that would eventually result in the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, a Temple dedicated to the Divine Child Jesus, a place of refuge for all.
After coming home from the trip, Mother Angelica shared this story with the nuns. At once, they began to look for land. After several months of searching, they came to Hanceville, Alabama. The property is an isolated piece of farmland almost completely surrounded by a river. It had previously been used to farm soybeans. From the very first moment that she set foot on the land, Mother Angelica says that she "felt the Presence of God very strongly."
From the very beginning of this adventure, the Providence of God was clearly evident. The nuns had no money to build, but they never tried to raise funds for the cause, but rather trusted in the Divine Providence of God. EWTN had no participation whatsoever in paying for any part of the Temple. It was totally the project of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery.
The Lord wished to manifest His loving Providence yet again by inspiring five families to financially assist with the building of the Shrine. Each family wished their donations to remain anonymous. And, the Child Jesus kept His promise to "help those who help you."
Most of the construction took place during the three years of preparation for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000. In 1997 - the Year dedicated to Jesus - the monstrance was created. In 1998 - the Year dedicated to the Holy Spirit - the Rose Window of the Holy Spirit was created. And finally, in 1999 - the Year dedicated to the Eternal Father - the Rose Window of God the Father was completed. This holy place is a miracle of God's Divine Providence.

Divine Child Jesus,
In my difficulties: help me
From the enemies of my soul: save me
In my errors: enlighten me
In my doubts and pains: comfort me
In my solitudes: be with me

When others despise me: encourage me
In temptations: defend me
In difficult hours: strengthen me
With your maternal heart: love me
With your immense power: protect me
And, into your arms, when I die: receive me

I BELIEVE, WE NEED THE HELP OF OUR LITTLE CHILD JESUS, MORE THAN EVER - ESMERALDA KICZEK
My devotion to the Divino Nino started around August 2009 when I watched a show on the “Miracles of the Child Jesus” on EWTN by Bob and Penny Lord. The first time I prayed to Him was when the heat for my tenant was broken and we did not have any money for repairs and it was very cold, so we called PSE&G and I prayed to Divino Nino to help us and I promised to spread devotion to Him and give a statue of Him to my tenant if he answered my prayer. The technician came and after trying to figure out the problem he went up the stairs and he miraculously stumbled on the cut cable that connected the thermostat and we have not had any problems since then, and also the technician did not even charge us a penny.
The second time is when I needed to speak to a lady from PNC bank regarding our mortgage, I had been calling for a few days and she never answered or returned my phone calls. So, I prayed to Divino Nino and he told me to call her at a specific time and I did and the lady answered my call.
I also prayed for my tenants son and my brother in law to get a job and they did. I prayed to Divino Nino for my nephew to be healed from a bad cold and he got better the very next day and went to school.
My family and I prayed for our car because it kept breaking down on Route 78, we promised a statue of Divino Nino to Father Ignatius Okoroji if Divino Nino answered our prayer of fixing our car. Well our car broke down six times and after that we decided to sell it and at the time we decided to praise Divino Nino in the “storm” since now we had no car and not enough money to buy one. We bought the statue anyway because I felt that we had to praise Him no matter what, little did I know the plans He had for us.
During Christmas I was talking to my tenant about how our cars were breaking down and with an inspiration from the Holy Spirit, I told her that I was going to pray to Jesus to get us both a new car. An idea came to me, I decided that I would ask a dealer to donate a car for my tenant, but I did not know where to start or where to go and I did not have a car either, all I knew was that the dealer had to be a family owned business. But the first thing we needed to do was to get a car for ourselves and our first try was a disaster. We went to a dealer in Newark and we wasted around four hours and the price of the car at the end was not the same as the price the salesperson had given us, so we walked out without a car, looking for a cab around 8:00 p.m. in Newark. On the way home, it came to me that I had forgotten to pray to Divino Nino, so I decided that next time, I would bring the statue I had with me to buy a car. So, a week later we went to a second dealer and I brought the statue with us. While there I realized that I had found the perfect dealer (family owned business) to ask for a car for my tenant. When I was waiting for the paper work I knew it was the dealer I had been looking for and was nervous but I knew it was now or never, so I prayed for the courage and to my surprise the owner said yes and I gave him my statue of Divino Nino and I promised the owner that I would pray for him, for his family and for his business for the rest of my life as a thank you for his generosity. Well, within 2 weeks my friend had a working car and the owner of the car dealer sent us a card where he told us that we had changed his life completely.
Another time, my sister in law was losing her teeth for no known reason and needed a dentist to help repair her teeth. She had no money and was in dire need and in pain. I told her we would pray for her to Divino Nino and look for a dentist who might be able to help. Thanks to Divino Nino she found a dentist the very next day who helped her for a minimal amount.
Also, my dear daughter Sarah suffered from a bad case of eczema. She had been allergic to wheat and soy. we took her to an allergy specialist, they did some tests and at the end he prescribed her some hydrocortisone cream, so after trying many things for years in December 2009, we decided to pray to our Divino Nino and she has been healed. She able to eat wheat with no problem and has even gained a little weight which is good because she was very thin.
My sister was expecting her first child and was in her seven month when the doctor told her that her sonogram showed that the baby did not have enough amniotic fluid, she was very scared because it could mean that she would have to give birth to her son prematurely, but I told her that we should pray to Divino Nino and she was able to carry the baby to term and he was born healthy. He is now four months old and full of energy.
In addition, we were having problems keeping up with our mortgage and prayed to Divino Nino to get a modification on our loan to make our payments affordable. We promised a church sized statue to Our Lady of Fatima in North Bergen NJ. Before our prayer was answered we thanked Divino Nino ahead of time and gave the statue to the church. Four months later we signed the contract for our modification which was due on the feast day of Divino Nino in Colombia, July 20, 2010.
Recently we had a problem with our roof. Since we bought the house eight years ago, we knew the roof had to be replaced, but we never seem to have enough money to replace it. When we had a leak, we just patched it up. Three years ago we tried to get a quote but again we did not have enough money to do it. Just one month ago, my tenant came and told me that she actually had two holes in the roof and that she could see the light through it. My husband and I knew at that moment that we needed a miracle to replace our roof, so we promised Divino Nino $100 and He came through for us with two loans and now we have a brand new roof that should last for the rest of our lives.
The House of Divino Nino website was created in Thanksgiving for answered prayers and to help spread devotion. I started a special devotion to the Little Child Jesus, “Divino Nino,” because He has been so good to my family, my friends, and me. He has been answering our prayers very quickly, and I truly believe that He would like His Infancy to be honored and praised. He revealed to Ven. Sister Margaret of the Blessed Sacrament, “Ask all that you desire through the merits of My Holy Infancy, nothing will be refused." I believe, we need the help of our Little Child Jesus, more than ever in our lives because of the kind of problems we are facing today through the world and especially in our country. It seems that there is very little devotion to Divino Nino in the United States. Since I started to pray to Him , He has answered all of my prayers. I love Him so much. It is in my heart to someday be able to build a shrine to Divino Nino, the name will be "The House of Divino Nino." This will be a place where we can all gather to praise Him and thank Him for all the blessings He has given to us and will shower upon us all.
Let us seek Him first and Divino Nino will take care of everything thing else we need. “To those who seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, He has promised to give us everything we need. Since everything indeed belongs to God, he who possesses God wants for nothing, if he himself is not found wanting before God.” (Catechism 2830) The Father who gives us life cannot not but give us the nourishment life requires - all appropriate goods and blessings, both material and spiritual. We must trust in His words. Remember, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will not pass away”(Matthew 24:35)
Praise be to Divino Nino forever and ever!
